About Sisu: Road to Revenge – Film

Sisu: Road to Revenge Film Details

Sisu: Road to Revenge (also stylized as Sisu 2) is a 2025 action thriller film written and directed by Jalmari Helander. It is the direct sequel to the 2022 sleeper hit Sisu. The film stars Jorma Tommila reprising his role as Aatami Korpi, alongside Stephen Lang and Richard Brake. In the film, set in 1946, the legendary Finnish ex-commando crosses into Soviet-occupied Karelia to dismantle his family home and move it to safety, but finds himself hunted by the ruthless Red Army officer responsible for his family’s murder.

Plans for a sequel were announced in March 2024, with Helander returning to write and direct. The film was produced by Petri Jokiranta and Mike Goodridge for Subzero Film Entertainment and Good Chaos. Principal photography took place almost entirely in Estonia, which doubled for Soviet-occupied Karelia, with only one day of filming in Finland. Mika Orasmaa returned as cinematographer, with music composed by Juri Seppä and Tuomas Wäinölä, and editing by Juho Virolainen.

Sisu: Road to Revenge had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest on September 21, 2025. It was theatrically released in Finland on October 22, 2025, by SF Film Finland, and in the United States on November 21, 2025, by Sony Pictures Releasing through Stage 6 Films and Screen Gems. The film received highly positive reviews from critics, earning a 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its relentless action and stunts. It grossed $9.8 million worldwide against a budget of $12.2 million, and subsequently became a major success on streaming platforms.

PRODUCTION

Development

Following the success of the first Sisu film, writer and director Jalmari Helander returned to helm the sequel. Helander drew heavy inspiration from George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road, Buster Keaton’s silent films, and the Indiana Jones franchise. His goal was to create a nearly dialogue-free, linear chase movie that relied heavily on practical stunts, vehicular mayhem, and dark humor. Because the movie acts as a standalone adventure, the title Sisu: Road to Revenge was chosen over numbering it to make it accessible to newcomers.

The film was officially announced in March 2024. Unlike the first film which was shot in Finnish Lapland, principal photography for the sequel took place primarily in Estonia, which provided the backdrop for the Soviet-occupied Karelian wilderness. Only a single day of filming actually took place in Finland. The production utilized returning key crew members, including cinematographer Mika Orasmaa and production designer Otso Linnalaakso, to maintain the gritty, visually striking aesthetic of the first movie. The film’s production budget was reported at $12.2 million.
