Episodes 01
“Of Ballads, Brawlers, and Bloodied Blades”
Caught in the midst of a war, Jaskier is almost killed by an enemy soldier, but is saved by a time-stopping creature. It introduces itself as Seanchaí, a collector of stories, and states they chose Jaskier to revive the story of the Legend of the Seven, and a war that lead to the Conjunction of the Spheres and the creation of the first Witcher.
Jaskier records the story told by Seanchaí, which begins with the Lark. Previously known as Éile, she was a warrior of the Raven Clan, responsible for protecting the king of Pryshia, a mighty elven kingdom. Unwilling to live as a warrior, Éile became a wandering bard, and renamed herself as “the Lark”. While performing at a tavern, the Lark sees a group of men harassing a young girl and beats them up. The girl, named Ithlinne, reveals she has seizures and visions. However, the Lark is arrested for beating up the men. In jail, she meets Fjall, previously a warrior of the Dog Clan, responsible for protecting the king of Xin’trea. Fjall was exiled for bedding Princess Merwyn, the sister of King Alvitir and an eccentric; she believes that the past will repeat itself, and is obsessed with Solryth, a figure who united ruined kingdoms and made them prosperous. The Lark and Fjall threaten each other, until they realize neither is active in their clan. Fjall is bailed out of jail, and the Lark attacks him, stealing his necklace. Fjall’s younger cousin, who bailed him, informs him of a peace treaty that Xin’trea and Pryshia are going to sign, and requests for him to return to Xin’trea. Fjall refuses. Meanwhile, the Lark uses Fjall’s necklace to escape from jail, and subsequently finds her sister, Niamh, back at her hut, who asks her to return to the Raven Clan and redeem herself, and also informs her of the peace treaty. The Lark refuses, but Ithlinne appears in her hut, and reveals a vision that if the Lark returns to the Raven Clan, she will get redemption. The Lark brings Ithlinne to her mother and then goes to find her sister. Reunited, they are attacked by what appear to be soldiers of Xin’trea, Pryshia and Darwen. Fjall, having come to recover the necklace, aids her in fighting them off, but Niamh dies. The Lark and Fjall discover that the armies are going to fight against their monarchy and thus the clans. They cremate Niamh, and then travel via ship to warn their clans. In Xin’trea, during the peace treaty signing, Princess Merwyn is revealed to have joined a coup to avoid an arranged marriage by her brother. All three monarchies and their clans are then annihilated by a dark beast summoned by the mage Balor. Merwyn becomes Empress, and dreams of being the next Solryth. Fjall and the Lark learn of Merwyn’s actions. Fjall doubts that Merwyn could be the culprit, but swears her death if it is true. The two make a blood oath and seek out Scian, the last member of the Ghost Tribe and the person who taught Éile about swordsmanship. Scian agrees to help them, but states they need more allies.
Meanwhile, Balor is shown to have trapped Syndril, an elf known for his research on monoliths, and is forcing him to calculate the orientation of the monoliths for some unknown use. Balor asks a mysterious blue entity to give him Chaos Magic, for him to become “a god amongst elves”, worries that the people will not accept him as Emperor, as he is “lowborn”. He agrees to sacrifice anything for this power.

She assigns him as her protector and directs him to spy on Balor and retrieve Syndril’s book for her, as she heads outside in disguise to see what lies outside the palace walls. She finds chaos, starvation, and poverty, but also spots Eredin, Balor’s high commander, sneak into a tavern, where it is revealed he has an achillean relationship that he is desperate to keep secret. Merwyn offers Eredin and his lover a seat of power in exchange for allying with her against Balor, as well as their assistance locating Fjall, as she wishes for an heir.
In the other dimension, Balor offers two children to the blue entity, proclaiming them celestial siblings, born under the scarlet moon with rare magic. The entity reminds him that chaos magic comes with a deep cost. Balor hesitates, but drains the life of the children in exchange for power. However, the power is fleeting, and the entity informs him that he requires “true sacrifice” for a transformation.
Fjall, Éile, and Scian arrive at the outskirts of Byrelle, which has fallen to the three armies of the empire. In need of coin to hire sell-swords, they turn towards the city of Daédwóde, intending to rob a bank, but find the bank already robbed during the chaos following the empire’s coup. They are discovered by the empire’s soldiers, and a battle ensues, with the soldiers trapping the trio inside. The bank erupts in flames, and the trio manage to escape through a trap door. Scian was injured in the scuffle, and Fjall and Éile search for herbs for a poultice. Upon returning, Fjall and Éile find Scian on the verge of death and guarded by a man named Callan, also called Brother Death, who decides to join them. He guides them to a mage healer, Zacaré; they find Syndril, who is her celestial twin, is with her. Scian is healed, and Syndril tells his story of discovering the first gateway to another world with Balor. Having felt the presence of the dark beast, he warned Balor, who then betrayed him and locked him away. Balor then claimed Syndril had been lost on another world, and brought that dark beast to their world, using it to annihalate the clans. Syndril escaped and vowed to destroy the gateway. He also reveals that Merwyn killed Fjall’s sister, and that the monoliths are causing tears between the worlds.
Syndril and Zacaré join the party, planning to use a monolith to force a gate to jump the party into the palace courtyard. There, they intend to tear down the master monolith, Ard Gaeth, while the original trio takes down Merwyn and the dark beast. In agreement, they head to the closest monolith, but when Syntril forces the gate, they find themselves on another world with two moons. A monster erupts from a nearby lake and attacks them, while Syndril tries to reopen the gate.

“Of Warriors, Wakes, and Wondrous Worlds”
The party quickly jumps back through the gate, finding they are at least closer to Xin’trea than they were previously. As they set out, they run into Meldorf, who is hiding from Balor’s beast. She brings them to a cave for safety and tells them of the legends already spreading about the party. They discuss how to defeat the beast; Syndril suggests creating their own beast that he fuses to, in order to control it to fight Balor’s beast. Zacaré is visibly upset at this idea. Éile, recalling Ithlinne’s prophecy, offers to merge with the beast instead, “two apart shall become two as one”. As she will likely die due to this fusion, she demands a wake to cheer the party up. While drunk, Fjall admits the secret passage into the palace he claimed to know, does not, in fact, exist. While the party drinks and bonds through stories, Scian takes Fjall’s wanted poster and disappears into the forest. Fjall and Éile share a moment and when she wakes in the morning, she finds that Fjall has taken the 1st beast potion and now it must be him who does the transformation. As the two mages and Éile carry out the transformation procedure, making Fjall into a beast, Brother Death and Meldorf discuss the crimes of elves to dwarves and Meldorf asks to join the party. Scian arrives at the palace, to make a deal betraying Fjall and Éile to the Empress. She returns to the party the next morning, claiming to have been scouting, and leads them onward, into a trap. The party is shocked and betrayed, only to be suprised when Scian reverts and double crosses the empires army, as she brought her own archers to slay them instead. This allows the party of seven and archers to steal the empire’s armour, disguising them for their entrance into the palace.Meanwhile, Merwyn’s mage apprentice, Avallac’h, searches for and discovers Balor’s book. He brings it to Merwyn, but they are caught by Balor. A mage fight erupts between Balor and Avallac’h. Balor almost kills the mage apprentice, but is stopped when Eredin arrives with Fenrik, Balor’s druid apprentice, at knifepoint. Balor is arrested. The next day, Avallac’h attempts to open a gate.
